James and Ashley

Ok, so after playing though a bit of ME1 and taking Ashley with me on every mission I see why she and Vega may work.  She has a crass sense of humor, and she is tough.  I can see her and Vega getting along, telling jokes, tearing the mickey out of each other,  that sort of thing.  And I read somewhere that in the original ME3 script Vega and Ash had a one night stand on the Normandy, but they cut it.  So I can get behind this, but I still think he finds bubbly smart types more his style.  I think he likes to feel the big guy hero.  Ash and Shep make him feel a bit inferior perhaps.  You know, that whole “traditional gender roles thing”.

New Information

So someone brought up that James does hook up with Ashley at the party. I didn’t realize this.  In my Mass Effect world, Ashley is dead.  So  I now have to re think this.

James’ Type…or…Get off me Femshep.

I forget who, but someone I follow once mentioned that James is not emotionally mature enough to have a relationship with Shep, and it got me thinking.

Writing Jimmy Vega’s Illustrious Stripping Career was easy, but I know that the Shep I wrote is not a true to character Femshep.  James is fun to write and the story itself was light and fluffy.  Not a lot of emotional baggage to contend with.  But as I started to try and write the sequel  I hit a wall.  I couldn’t get James and Shep together in my head.  It didn’t work.  Everything was getting more and more out of character as it progressed.  Which has lead me to the conclusion  Shep and James do not work.  I am still a rabid James fan, but I don’t think I’m a Shega shipper anymore, and here is why.

I am nearing the end of another play through, this time with all DLC and I feel like I have a new perspective on the type of woman James goes for.  So many Shega shippers are pissed at the creepy factor of what the “fling” turned out to be in the Citadel DLC, and I agree its creepy. If the roles were reversed, the fandom would cry for blood creepy, but I think it makes some sense.  James does not find Shepard appealing in “that” way.  Sure he finds her sexy and attractive, hence all the flirting.  He has a huge amount of respect for her, and its clear he looks up to her, but when it comes down to it, Shepard is just not his “type”.  James goes for the girly yet brainy type.  Smart, yet with a healthy dose of damsel in distress.

Evidence:

1.  Treeya.  I watched Paragon Lost (oh god my eyes) and if you haven’t seen it, James has a squishy school boy crush on a very Liara-esque asari anthropologist.  Treeya, is as frosty as she is blue, but that doesn’t stop James from being hopelessly tongue tied and shy around her.

2.  Ann Bryson, the daughter of Dr. Bryson in the Leviathan DLC.  While James doesn’t show any romantic interest in her, the way he tries to help and comfort  her while she is being used to channel the Leviathan artifact I feel shows his soft spot for this sort of woman.  Shep has to renegade his ass to keep him from stopping the process.

3. Maya Brooks.  The bouncy alliance staff analyst who James mentions “is cute” and wonders “if she is on the market”.  Sure Brooks is not who she seems, but given what James knows of her at the time, his comments tell me what sort of girl he is potentially attracted to.

4.  James mentions in the Citadel DLC, that he hasn’t fraternized since joining the military….I am not sure what to do with this information.  Are we expected to believe that in 10 years James has been celibate?  I find this hard to imagine.  Though a softy, James is somewhat narcissistic, and I’m sure a fair plenty of women have thrown themselves at him over the years.  He has bound to have bed at least a few of them.  That being said, it could be argued that James’ lack of romantic interests over the years is related to the fact that most of the women he meets are soldiers, and soldier girls are just not his “type”.

Arguments and comments welcome.

Plot holes

Plot holes….plot holes everywhere!  That is all I’m going to say about that.

Best laid plans…

I said I was going to write last night…..but instead I got distracted.  First I got caught in a Tumblr-nado.  Second my husband came in and started rubbing my back (sneaky bastard, I think he is jealous of the time I spend with James).  So now I need coffee and some music for inspiration, and just maybe I can get some creatin’ done today.

Wooo!

Wooo three followers yay!!!

I am about 1,500 words into part three of When I Close My Eyes.  I’ll write some more tonight, so update will likely be sometime ‘round the beginning of the week.  I’m going to try really hard to keep on a weekly update schedule.

Jimmy and Shep will finally get face time in this section.  I was having a bit of an internal debate on just how they were going to handle their proximity during the six months on earth.  They were both being so very coy with me on how they wanted to handle it, but its pretty clear to me now what direction we will be going in.  I don’t want to give anything away, but I feel that what I will be presenting is somewhat different than what other authors have written on the “incarceration” time.  The bulk of this story will focus on this time, and I have a whole clusterfuck of ideas on what will happen (ironically, none of them contain clusterfucks,  sorry).  There will be intrigue, some espionage, and a whole lot of not being able to keep your hands to yourself.

Thanks to everyone who has suggested music.  It has all been very helpful.

On a side note:  I did get the part.  Woo yay me!  I will be playing the part of Peaches Verdeen, in The Red Velvet Cake Wars…..Yes, I am in Texas, and in Texas we like our raunchy Texas Comedies.

Look what arrived in the mail today!!!
